From the Drawer no. 2
Evidence That I Am Probably an Adult
After publishing the A Fragile Comedy manifesto, I had a realization: several hundred people are now reading my reflections on human existence.
On that very same day, I spent roughly ten minutes looking for a notebook in which I had written a note to my future self about where I would most likely put my notebook.
The investigation was not brief, indeed.
I’m beginning to suspect that adulthood is not a state.
It’s a collective hallucination with excellent PR.
On the other hand, there is a considerable body of evidence suggesting that I have, in fact, become an adult.
The findings remain inconclusive, but they are certainly worth examining:
Evidence No. 1
I manage banking for members of my family.
This is the kind of responsibility society does not usually entrust to people who occasionally stick googly eyes on their refrigerator out of boredom and then spend an entire week greeting the appliance.
Every month, I keep track of accounts, payments, and financial obligations.
In other words, I do my best to ensure that the word foreclosure continues to exist only in my professional background and not in our family finances.
Evidence No. 2
I maintain several calendars.
Digital ones and paper ones. And I am not claiming there is only one of each.
This reflects not so much my organizational skills as the long-term evolution of defensive mechanisms.
One of them was purchased purely because it featured a fox wearing a Native American headdress on the cover.
Some decisions simply refuse to be governed by logic.
